The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards honor creative teens in Grades 7–12 with Gold and Silver keys and Honorable Mention awards. Congratulations to Natalie Pellette ’19 for earning a Silver Key for “Distortion,” a mixed media art piece. Elinor Amir-Lobel ’22 earned a Gold Key for “A Traitor Within,” a personal essay and memoir.

Congratulations to our men’s varsity basketball team on winning the California Interscholastic Federation Division III State Championship. The eighth-seed Torreys defeated the third-seed San Francisco University High School 67-39 and made history as the first LJCDS men’s basketball team to win the D3 state championship.

Students, faculty, staff and parents gathered to honor the induction of new members to the Cum Laude Society. Juniors and seniors are invited to apply and members are selected based on their academic, athletic and extracurricular activities and achievements. The society’s motto is “Areté, Diké, Timé,” Greek for “Excellence, Justice, Honor.”

Congratulations to LJCDS’s fifth and sixth graders! Their Middle School art project was selected to be featured in the “Forces of Nature” exhibition at the San Diego International Airport. The piece is one of 16 exhibits that were chosen out of 75 submissions and is the only student exhibit this year.
